I Gave Up Oils

Given the opportunity to work with a highly respected professional coach, I was prepared to make a significant investment in time and money, but the highest price to pay turned out to be this:  he was highly sensitive to “scent” and innocently asked that I avoid all fragrances during our one-day intensive.

Now, I knew my Young Living essential oils are not fragrance oils and are, therefore, safe.  He would have had no more of a reaction to my essential oils than he does to the herbs his wife uses to cook.  Also, I knew he did not realize that I use my essential oils for my health and well-being, and that he was making a substantial request.

Out of respect, I chose to honor his request without discussion or explanation.  It is never my intention to convince anyone of the therapeutic benefits of essential oils.  I just didn’t want it to be an issue in our work together.

Plus, I became curious.  It has been years since I’ve had a day without essential oils–what would it be like to go without essential oils?

Dressing in the morning, I skip my usual Great Day routine.

Driving there, my wrist hurts.  Reflexively, I reach for Pan Away, and then stop myself.

9:47 a.m. – my belly is very bloated.  I think about DiGize and hope for the best.Tired woman are sleeping

10:03 a.m. – hot flash.  I miss my peppermint.  Would also be nice for my coffee breath.

11:24 a.m. – all this talking, my throat is scratchy.  I think about Breathe Again roll-on, my go-to for speaking engagements.

11:27 a.m. – hot flash.

11:56 a.m. – dogs have joined us.  I love them but I am allergic.  Will I be okay without my lavender?

12:13 p.m. – my thumb is hurting from all this writing.  Would normally put some Pan Away on it and forget about it.

1:37 p.m. – in the thick of our creative endeavor, my brain feels a little foggy and slow.  I sit up straighter and breathe deeply, longing for Clarity or Brain Power or Inspiration in a diffuser.

2:13 p.m. – we have a major breakthrough!  I love what we’ve come up with, but I can’t help crying.  E-gad, I need some Grounding oil.

2:39 p.m. – digging around in my tote, I get a whiff of my essential oils.  I linger, huffing heavily.  Does he notice?

3:27 p.m.  – major energy slump.  Coach even comments, asking if I need a nap, or maybe some chocolate.  Yes, please, but I’d trade it all for some peppermint oil.

3:37 pm. – I am being asked to focus.  I’m trying!

3:41 p.m. – hot

4:02 pm. – hot

4:32 p.m.  – work is done.  I am in the car and the door is not even shut, “Hellooooooo peppermint!”

I survived, and we did great work (as you will be learning later this year!).  Looking back at the day, what I see is I was not my best.  The nagging physical issues—easily resolved with essential oils—distracted me.  I lacked my usual presence and focus that give me my “edge.”  Essential oils do that for me:  snap me to center, heighten my awareness, and keep me in energetic alignment.  They help me show up as my best self.

This is good to know.  Why would anyone ever show up less than their best?
